De Lange Street in Bellville is radiating unity and heritage with the completion of a transformative mosaic installation. Belville, South Africa (30 December 2023) – In a glorious culmination of community spirit, artistry, and dedication, De Lange Street in Bellville has blossomed into a radiant showcase of unity and heritage. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP), the final touches to this transformative mosaic installation have been laid, creating a stunning tapestry that encapsulates the essence of Bellville’s diverse community. The completion of this monumental project was marked by Councillor Mercia Kleinsmith, who placed the final tile with a sense of pride and accomplishment. With a grand total of 35 captivating mosaic tiles adorning De Lange Street, this initiative has breathed new life into the heart of Bellville. The intricate designs and vibrant colours serve as a visual symphony that celebrates the myriad cultures, histories, and stories that converge in this bustling economic hub. Monique Muller, the visionary project manager at GTP, eloquently captures the deeper significance of this artistic endeavour, saying, “This mosaic is more than adding a splash of colour and vibrancy to our beautiful city. It is a celebration of the rich cultural fabric that makes Bellville so special. Through these intricate designs, we aim to convey the shared experiences, histories, and journeys of individuals from diverse backgrounds who have chosen to live, work, and do business here.” Each tile is framed with unique designs that celebrate the community’s diversity, while painted lines connect these masterpieces along the sidewalk, guiding residents and visitors on a journey of discovery and belonging. Mercia Kleinsmith, Chairperson of the sub-council, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the collaboration between the City and GTP, stating, “It is an honour and a privilege to have been part of the final stage of the beautification project of the sidewalk in De Lange Street. Thank you to the GTP for the work that has been done, and may the wonderful collaboration between the City and the GTP continue to strive with abundant success.” The community-driven essence of this project is further highlighted by the backing of local businesses such as Safe2Park, which generously funded half the expense of the paint for this concluding stage. Such collaborations demonstrate the shared dedication to converting Bellville into a cleaner, safer, and more appealing refuge for both residents and small businesses.
