Mural pays tribute to Springboks

A call has been made for the community of Bellville to embrace the artwork that pays tribute to the 2023 Rugby World Cup champions.

A mural of the Springboks on the Park Central Lifestyle building along Blanckenberg Street was unveiled on Wednesday March 6.

It is part of an initiative by The Greater Tygerberg Partnership to unite local businesses and residents in an effort to build and modernise Bellville, making it cleaner and safer for those who live in and visit it.

“The Bokke holds a special place in the hearts of our community,” said project leader Alex Jongens.

“This mural serves as a vibrant symbol of our collective pride and unity. Let’s come together to witness the power of art to unite and inspire.”

For Diana Tinkerbell, the artist behind the mural, the project represents the unity of the community.

“Creating this mural has been an incredible journey; it’s a dialogue with the people, a reflection of our shared values and aspirations,” she said.

George Comitis, director at Park Central Lifestyle, emphasised the importance of sharing meaningful messages through art.

“Each mural tells a story, capturing the essence of South Africa’s diverse culture and heritage. We are proud to be part of the vibrant tapestry of Bellville’s landscape.”

Residents, business owners, and visitors to Bellville are encouraged to be part of the excitement by posting their photos of the mural on social media using #springbokmuralbellville and #betterbellvilletogether
