On February 14th, the better. bellville. together. team joined the University of Western Cape’s Department of Social Work’s Open Day for a waste-to-resource activation.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement and purpose as students from various disciplines gathered to learn about waste management and environmental stewardship. The day was all about engaging students on the importance of waste separation and environmental education. We set up interactive sessions, games, and surveys to make learning fun and accessible led by better. together. project manager, Zintle Dotwana, and her waste educator team.
Students eagerly participated, learning about the significance of waste segregation and recycling. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to a greener future. As part of their commitment to environmental sustainability, many students pledged to adopt more eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. These pledges ranged from reducing plastic usage to actively participating in community clean-up efforts.
The event was a success, highlighting the power of collaboration and community involvement. We left UWC energised, knowing that together, we could make a difference.
Our team works closely with key partners and stakeholders in the Bellville region to extend the work. Collaboration with partners such as UWC and others ensures the success of the City-funded place-making initiatives geared towards economic growth, and strengthens the collective impact on the community and the environment.
A big thank you to the University of Western Cape’s Department of Social Work and all the students who joined us. Let’s continue working together towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
